At the beginning of May the academy had Abundio Munoz come down from Fort Worth and hold a boxing seminar. We refreshed our basic punching techniques and foot work then built up to combinations as time went on. About an hour of sparring finished out the day. Abundio has his own gym in Fort Worth were he teaches a variety of private lessons from weight training to kickboxing. Abundio will be training for a body building competition in July after which we hope to have him back down. Check out his website at www.abundiotkc.com

Dan Gomez and Jackie Perez participated in this years Olympic Trials in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 13th - 15th. They are members of the A&M Judo Team and our outstanding judoka. Find out more about this year’s Olympic Judo at www.usjudo.org.

The Eagle’s annual “Reader’s Choice Award” has voted Academy of Modern Martial Arts the Best Martial Arts School in town! We are very thankful to all the families and students that have voted for us. We are very excited to receive this award, which complements our “Best In The Brazos Award” last semester.

Our instructors really make an effort to push our students to reach their individual potential and balancing that with a technical standard we want them to reach.

On Friday, May 16th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm we will be hosting a Black Belt Club Event at the Academy, a Dodge Ball and Pizza Party, for our BBC members. If you would like more information about our Black Belt Club, inquire at the front desk. Each BBC member may bring one friend to this event.

We are very excited about our first entry into the on-line martial arts community. Our goal is to give knowledge to our students, other martial artists and people with an interest and at the same time, learning from others.

This blog is open to friendly discussion or questions about all styles, training methods, events, etc. We don’t expect everyone to agree on the range of topics that might be discussed but to be courteous about other views. As in martial arts your opponent has different tactics which you must adapt to.

The academy has multiple instructors of different disciplines to share and we look forward to our upcoming posts.
